WOWOWで放映したのを録画して、見た。映画、「息もできない」。韓国映画である。
低予算ながら、完璧な映画だ。主人公は暴力を仕事としているが、彼にとって暴力とは言葉以上のコミュニケーションとなっている。「ありがとう」「おはよう」「さようなら」全て言葉の代わりに、相手の顔を、はたくのである。
徹頭徹尾、暴力映画で、監督・脚本・主演・制作を監督自身が演じている。主人公は徹底して無表情で、何を考えているかわからず、身勝手で、破滅的で、すこし優しい。その意味では、北野武の世界とアナロジー（近い）を感じさせる。
しかし、ハッキリした違いがある。たけしのそれは娯楽の「要素」としての暴力描写だ。サングラスをつけて、銃をぶっ放すと、かっこいい、という動機付けを感じさせる。だが、『息もできない』では違う。韓国の社会底辺に抜きがたくある弱者の弱者による暴力、あるいはドメスティックバイオレンスの実像と哀しさが心の底にひたひたと迫ってくる。出て来る登場人物が全て暴力で人生を壊され、出て行こうとあえぐが、誰一人うまくいかず、また自分も暴力の連鎖にはまっていく。主人公たちはそこである種の冒険を演じて、その結果の奇跡と悲劇が起こるのが、この映画のファンタジーであり、「祈り」となっている。
これほど、何度思い出しても、涙が出て来る映画は珍しい。イーストウッドの映画も、思い出すと悲しくなる映画があるが、もっと足下の手触りをもって、人間の生きることの哀しさと惨めさ、弱さを酷薄にさらけだした描写が心に痛みとして残る。
どうして、人は弱いのだろう。弱いともっと弱いものをいじめて、まわりをダメにしていき、自分も墜ちていく。その哀しみが、叫びのように、前編を貫く。
この映画では、勇気のあるのは、やはり女である。主人公の姉の母性的で一貫した愛情と、ひとりの同じく暴力に人生をねじまげられた女子高生との出会いで、主人公は自分の心を、一瞬、開くことになる。
ヤン・イクチュン監督はこれが長編第一作だそうである。その前は自主映画だったのだろうか？しかし映画文法は完璧である。着実な力を持った人だ。この映画を作るために家を売ったという。映画を作る情熱は、命がけでなければ意味がないので、これは当然の気構えではあるが、本当に尊敬に値する。出て来る俳優たちも、撮影も照明もすばらしい。これからが楽しみである。
彼のような情熱を映画に捧げられる人は世界に少ないし、同じ情熱を美術・工芸に注げる人もやはり多くはないであろう。しかし確実にいたし、今も居る。
